Chelmsford, MA (PRWEB) March 14, 2004 -- Optelec US, Inc. announced today
that it has presented the National Association for the Visually Handicapped
(NAVH) with a donation of 150 portable magnifiers in honor of the organization’s
50th anniversary.
The Handiview™ units, valued at more than $28,000
dollars, are illuminated stand magnifiers with integrated cameras. The units can
be attached to any television and magnify text and photos up to 20 times,
enabling those with low vision to read again. This donation will enable NAVH to
put the power to see in the hands of people who could otherwise not afford this
type of advanced technology.
Dr. Lorraine Marchi, Founder and CEO of
NAVH stated: “This is a wonderful gift from Optelec. We have so many individuals
who are ‘hard of seeing’ and just cannot afford to purchase this type of
electronic technology. It opens up a whole new world for people who have had to
give up reading because of their limited vision.”
Dr. Marchi founded
NAVH 50 years ago in order to provide textbooks for visually impaired youth.
Today NAVH houses the nation’s largest, free by mail, lending library of large
print books. In addition, the organization supplies a wide variety of large
print educational publications on vision and vision impairment written for the
layperson. NAVH also assists people with low vision by providing access to a
variety of low vision aids ranging from hand magnifiers to talking watches and
lighting solutions.
Optelec to Direct Web Traffic to NAVH Online
Store
In a related development, Optelec announced that it would link
their website to the online store run by NAVH. Optelec President, Annette
Fasnacht, commented, “NAVH’s online store offers people with low vision and
their families the opportunity to purchase many tools that make living with low
vision so much more manageable. It also helps to raise additional funds for the
organization’s important work. We are pleased to have the opportunity to direct
our many customers to this site.”
Optelec is the leading supplier of the
ClearView® line of video magnifiers. These integrated camera and monitor
products magnify text and objects over 50 times, allowing people with low vision
to resume many of the activities of daily living.
