Micro-organisms in Public Washrooms Can Be Controlled by ASC Hygiene Service
Proper Hand Washing Systems and Practices are Critical to Infection Control Procedure as well as having a Touch Free Environment.
(PRWEB) December 19, 2003 -- Hand washing is often described as the single
most important way to reduce the risks of transmitting germs. But hand washing
must be done properly and under the right conditions to completely fulfill its
crucial role in preventing the spread of infections.
For infections to be
transmitted in a hospital environment three elements must be present — a source
of infecting microorganisms, a susceptible host, and a means of transmission for
the microorganism. These microorganisms are transmitted through five main routes
— contact, droplet, airborne, common vehicle and vector-borne. Of these five,
the most important and frequent mode of transmission of nosocomial infections is
contact transmission. This transmission mode is divided into two subgroups:
direct contact, or body surface-to-body contact, and indirect transmission. In
the latter, transmission occurs via contact of a susceptible host with a
contaminated intermediate object, usually inanimate. These inanimate objects
typically include contaminated instruments, needles or dressings or contaminated
hands that are not washed and gloves that are not changed between patients.
However, many surfaces, including sinks and washroom fixtures, are potential
sources of contamination and can compromise the effectiveness of hand washing as
the first line of defense against germs.
One way to reduce the risk of
cross-contamination in a healthcare setting is to install no-touch fixtures and
systems in washrooms and hand washing stations. With no-touch systems,
healthcare workers can obtain water, soap and paper towels without touching
surfaces that may harbor harmful microorganisms. To further ensure an
environment that hinders germ transmission, there are systems that allow for
on-demand sanitizing and cleaning of restroom fixtures via touch free flushing
and hygiene receptacles.
ASC Hygiene Service has developed a complete
Touch Free Wash Station and Touch Free Restroom. For more information, please
