Addiction Book Author’s Message Ahead of Media Attack on Pharmaceutical Companies
“Losing the Beer Goggles” talks about harmful effects of prescription drugs in addiction treatment therapy, especially antidepressants.
(PRWEB) January 7, 2005 -- Lucas Aaron Catton has been working in the
rehabilitation and education field for several years, following his own
successful recovery from alcohol and drug abuse. After completing a drug-free
program he entered the field a year later and started his extensive training and
practical experience and today is a Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor
through the National Board of Addiction Examiners.
Having worked in
prevention, public relations, government affairs, serving on a board of a
statewide provider coalition and performing spokesperson duties for one of the
nation’s largest and most successful drug rehabilitation and education centers,
Catton has recently had his first book published.
“Losing the Beer
Goggles: And Seeing the Truth for the First Time” is a critical essay centered
on addiction treatment reform that offers workable solutions for turning around
our decadent society. A recurring theme throughout the book is the infestation
of psychiatry and prescription drugs into the field of drug rehabilitation,
citing numerous examples of the dangerous practice of prescribing
antidepressants to treat addiction.
“Depression is a symptom of drug
abuse and withdrawal,” comments Catton, “By no means is it a disease and neither
is addiction. Antidepressants only make the problem of dealing with addiction
much more complicated as well as bring on a new set of side-effects and
symptoms.”
Evidence of these statements are turning up everywhere from
Congressional websites to CNN, especially surrounding the recent stories
regarding Prozac’s maker Eli Lilly having full knowledge of the harm their drug
causes.
“It’s a multi-billion dollar ploy that’s driving up the price of
healthcare and costing American lives,” says Catton, adding that Lilly is
certainly not alone in this sick game of profit-pushing.
