In Motion Technology Extends Mission-Critical Data Access to Mobile Emergency Response Teams with Reliable and Secure Wireless Gateway
Cingular Wireless Certifies onBoardTM Mobile Gateway 1000 for use with Cingular Wireless WAN Connectivity Service; American Medical Response are among first customers to deploy oMG.
Greenwood Village, CO (PRWEB) July 19, 2005 -– In Motion Technology today
announces the availability of its onBoardTM Mobile Gateway 1000 (oMG 1000),
which provides mobile teams in the emergency response field a wireless
connection to mission critical information in the field. The In Motion wireless
gateway offers cost-effective, reliable and secure wireless wide area access to
mission critical medical data in conjunction with Cingular's high-speed Wireless
WAN Connectivity Service. American Medical Response (AMR), the nation's largest
private medical transportation company, will be installing the oMG 1000 in its
EMS vehicles to run an Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) and in-car navigation
application, and plans to add multiple applications, including Electronic
Patient Care Reporting (EPCR) within the next 12 months.
Cingular's
Wireless WAN Connectivity Service enables a seamless and secure means of
extending Ethernet-based IT networking to the field for mobile enterprises and
government agencies. The oMG system, with its integrated 802.11 connectivity,
enables AMR personnel to readily work with their medical applications stored on
the oMG 1000's 30GB hard drive as well as communicate with the hospital via
Cingular's EDGE network, the largest and fastest national wireless data network
in the U.S. The oMG is designed to rapidly enable connectivity for medical
personnel.
“As the availability of high-speed wireless data networks
such as the Cingular Wireless EDGE network increases, CIOs are looking for
effective solutions to mobilize their organization's information and
intelligence,” comments Hamish Caldwell, executive director, Cingular Wireless
Business Markets Group. “We've seen considerable interest in the Wireless WAN
Connectivity Solution from a number of organizations who want to use a wireless
gateway-enabled solution to provide secure and flexible mobile data
communications infrastructure for their front line workgroups. They realize that
this approach is cost-effective and can facilitate rapid deployment of multiple
applications while providing a higher level of flexibility and manageability for
their IT staff.”
American Medical Response is among the Cingular
customers that have already begun rolling out the Wireless WAN Connectivity
Service for mobile workgroups using the oMG 1000 system. “Providing emergency
medical transport to patients, it is crucial that we optimize our processes as
much as possible. By deploying a secure wireless system to extend our
back-office applications into the field, including our Electronic Patient Care
Reporting system, we are meeting that need. It's vital as documenting patient
information in a timely manner not only meets state and federal regulations, but
also provides emergency personnel with accurate and legible medical records,”
says William Tara, CIO, American Medical Response. “The reliability, flexibility
and security of the Cingular Wireless WAN Connectivity Service with the onBoard
Mobile Gateway allows us to easily integrate our own applications and our
existing Cisco-based VPN technology with the system as well as allow us to
choose the types of devices and connectivity we wanted. We chose this wireless
solution based on its flexibility and its security capabilities, including built
in firewalls.”
The onBoardTM Mobile Gateway 1000 (oMG 1000) is a
ruggedized server and wireless gateway designed for use in harsh mobile and
portable environments. It securely extends the convenience and simplicity of
Ethernet networking to remote and mobile locations through the transparent use
of high-speed wireless data networks such as Cingular's nationwide* EDGE
network, which is available in 13,000 cities and towns and 42,000 miles of
interstate highways across the U.S.
“In creating the onBoard Mobile
Gateway we recognized the need for a robust, integral and flexible solution that
complements current IT infrastructure spending to help bring mission critical
data to the field,” comments Kirk Moir, President and CEO, In Motion Technology.
“Working with Cingular's Wireless WAN Connectivity Service, the solution
provides a compelling approach to transparently and securely providing mission
critical IP based data communications facilities to mobile workgroups.”
