Baxa Corporation’s Jeff Baldwin Provides Business Perspective To Denver’s 9News Regarding UK Terrorist Attacks
Colorado has substantial business ties to the United Kingdom, raising some concerns that the attacks might result in an interruption of commerce. On July 7, 2005, the day of the UK terrorist attacks, Jeff Baldwin, President and COO of Denver-based Baxa Corporation was interviewed by Mark Koebrich of Denver’s NBC affiliate, 9News, about the business ramifications for Colorado companies with holdings in the UK. Baldwin served as Managing Director of Baxa Limited, the company’s UK subsidiary for two years prior to returning to the US as Chief Operating Officer. He had been to London the week preceding the attacks, riding the Underground while attending meetings with Baxa hospital customers in the city.
Englewood, CO (PRWEB) July 16, 2005 -- Jeff Baldwin, President and COO of
Denver-based Baxa Corporation was interviewed by Mark Koebrich of Denver’s NBC
affiliate, 9News, regarding the business ramifications for Colorado companies
with holdings in the United Kingdom in light of last week’s terrorist bombings
of the London public transit system. In addition, Jim Reis, President/CEO of
Denver’s World Trade Center, was interviewed and his comments are included in
the news story.
Verbatim quotes from the 7/7/05 news report
follow:
9News Adele Arakawa:
“Colorado has substantial business ties to
the United Kingdom, raising some concerns that the attacks might result in an
interruption of commerce. 9News Consumer Reporter Mark Koebrich tells us more
than 400 Colorado companies export products to the UK, and Mark, that’s just the
tip of the iceberg.”
9News Mark Koebrich:
“That’s correct. The UK is
Colorado’s eighth largest export market. It’s a $250 million micro-economy.
There are more than 45 Colorado companies with operations or offices in the UK
and more than 125 Colorado companies are majority owned by concerns in the UK.
So when things happen over there, it puts millions of dollars at risk over
here."
Baxa Corp. Jeff Baldwin:
“We haven’t been able to talk to
anybody, but the e-mails have come across and we know everyone there was safe
today.”
9News Mark Koebrich:
“Jeff Baldwin, CEO [President and COO] of
Centennial [Englewood] medical supply maker Baxa has the same problem many
Colorado concerns are facing today – the inability of his employees to talk
directly to their counterparts in the companies’ UK offices. Much the same was
true at Denver’s World Trade Center today where all eyes were on London. CEO Jim
Reis says most companies have contingency plans built in since 9/11 and he’s
forecasting a good recovery.”
World Trade Center Denver Jim
Reis:
“Once the British sort through what’s happened here and take what
necessary steps there are, I think, as quickly as possible, business will get
back to normal.”
9News Mark Koebrich:
“Some of the state’s biggest
players are involved in the outcome. CH2M Hill, Coors, Level3 and Qwest all have
offices and employees in the UK, many thousands of whom travel on the
now-damaged public transit system.”
World Trade Center Denver Jim
Reis:
“In the UK, trains and buses are very much used by people moving
particularly to work, commuting to work, commuting home. So it’s a very, kind of
dense transportation network.”
9News Mark Koebrich:
“A network that
even local executives use when visiting on business.”
Baxa Corp. Jeff
Baldwin:
“I tend to go about three times a year. And I was there last week
and actually riding around in the tube to go to hospitals in the
UK.”
9News Mark Koebrich:
“Hospitals that today are using Jeff
Baldwin’s products to treat casualties. And, with economies in the UK and
Colorado still somewhat fragile, the business side of this is that no one wants
an interruption of commerce and, Adele, so far it looks as though that won’t
happen.”
9News Adele Arakawa:
“All right, Mark Koebrich. Thanks Mark.
We’ll have any updates of the London Terror Attacks on 9News.”
