Paradigm Changing Approach to Health - Backwards from What People Expect - Practiced by Health Professionals Across the USA
Health professionals across the USA are integrating a new paradigm for healthier living that's backwards from what people expect. It's called Intrinsic Coaching(TM).
Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) February 11, 2005 -- Intrinsic Coach™ Christina
Marshall, founder of Totally Coached, Inc. and the Intrinsic Coaching™
methodology, along with other Intrinsic Coach™ professionals nationwide, brings
health & wellness to the next level with a unique, paradigm changing
approach to health called Intrinsic Coaching™ that creates healthier lives and
healthier organizations by enabling people to think better about choices,
especially by increasing people’s ability to think intrinsically.
Considered a breakthrough coaching methodology and identified by the
Wellness Councils of America as having set the standard for coaching in the
health and wellness industry, the Intrinsic Coaching™ methodology shows how to
support people to accomplish healthy change in a way that’s backwards from what
people expect.
Intrinsic Coaching™ is an entirely new paradigm for
helping people. It’s based on increasing intrinsic thinking and, to learn it,
Intrinsic Coach™ professionals increase their own ability to think intrinsically
about themselves, others, and their professional practices. Doing so changes
almost everything and breakthroughs become inevitable.
Though Intrinsic
Coach™ professionals are experts, they no longer focus primarily on telling
people what they think, what they know, or what to do. Paradoxically, the less
they tell people what to do, choosing instead to focus on intrinsic resources
and strategies that they can’t see, at first, the more valuable and applicable
their expertise becomes.
Intrinsic Coach™ professionals have a way to get
past the limitations of information and advice, which aren’t as helpful as
people keep expecting them to be. Instead of primarily giving information and
advice, they build on resources they don’t see, at first. Often, the person
being coached doesn’t see them, either.
By building on intrinsic
thinking, on what we don’t see, at first, the people being coached are able to
think better about goals to discover a vast array of resources and strategies
that are immediately available. In fact, Intrinsic Coach™ professionals know
it’s the goal, not the strategy, that’s most important and where we need to
spend the most time. It’s backwards from what they are trained to do, which is
to spend most of their time, energy, attention, and resources on the strategy.
As Intrinsic Coach™ professionals, they maximize people’s contributions
toward outcomes and, from there, people build one step at a time, with each step
informing the next.
Health and wellness professionals reading this will
likely think they already do this but that’s because they are comparing what
they read with what they already know. This is different and goals aren’t what
health and wellness professionals think they are.
The methods health and
wellness professionals are trained to use to get people to accomplish healthy
change are inherently limited. They leave only one option when they don’t work –
to try harder. And, the harder they try with the approaches they are trained to
use, the more they reduce the chances of being successful. It’s all in this idea
that we’re supposed to “get people to…” It is inherently flawed and there’s a
better way. It takes a little time to be able to see it but once you see it
there's no turning back.
Because increased intrinsic thinking is
associated with greater health and well being, fewer problems in living, and an
increased ability to accomplish great results for, with, and through people,
Intrinsic Coach™ professionals integrate their professional expertise in health
and wellness with the Intrinsic Coaching™ methodology to increase people’s
capacity to think more intrinsically about choices.
Just by focusing on
increasing intrinsic thinking, they are able to maximize their effectiveness,
work with increased resources and strategies, generate continuous learning,
create results that stay and multiply, including from person to person, and do
so in a shorter amount of time.
By utilizing the Intrinsic Coaching™
methodology, they are providing benefits that extend across all facets of
people’s lives, creating healthier people, healthier organizations, and a
healthier world.
They have learned that behavior change is an intrinsic
result and intrinsic results require intrinsic strategies. The strategies people
use to promote behavior change, in health and wellness, in schools, in
organizations, just about anywhere, are extrinsic. They’re “outside in”
approaches that are based on “getting people to…” and they don’t work. Health
and wellness professionals are trained almost exclusively in extrinsic
strategies but the only way extrinsic strategies would work well is if people
were replicable and predictable, like machines.
The methods health and wellness professionals are trained in tend to
minimize people and their contributions toward outcomes and guide them to think
about themselves in ways that aren’t productive. They approach people as if
people can be one size fits all. They are based on comparisons and
self-reference and as if information should be enough to accomplish a healthy
change. It’s not what we want but it’s the best we have until we know how to
increase intrinsic thinking about choices – people’s intrinsic thinking about
choices and my intrinsic thinking about people.
Intrinsic Coaching™ enables health and wellness professionals to work
with what they can’t see. It’s the only way to work effectively with people. It
means they learn to refrain from building on what they think and see, in favor
of building, first, on what they can’t see. It means being diagnostic,
evaluative, and self-referential as a choice, when it’s appropriate, instead of
as a habit. It means unlearning what their training has taught them so that,
when they use their expertise, it’s valuable in ways that’s linked to people as
the unique, one of a kind people they are, wanting to be healthier, perform
better, or create a change.
There are over six billion people in the
world and not one person is the same as another yet the way we attempt to
support people for better performance or to make healthier choices is as if
that’s not true. As a result, the only alternative, when people don’t do as
expected, is to try harder and, when that doesn’t work, what’s left is to
blame.
Intrinsic Coach™ health and wellness professionals build on the
intrinsic. It’s invisible, it’s serious science, it even has a formula, and it’s
backwards from what we expect. Health and wellness professionals and, in fact,
all people need to learn to build on the intrinsic. It’s far richer than what we
can see, at first, and it’s abundant, available, and free.
