Lacombe, LA (PRWEB) July 1, 2005 -- National Consulting for Orthotics and Prosthetics is making a decided effort to make medical devices such as prosthetic (artificial limbs) and orthotics (orthopedic braces) devices available to the people who need them. The company consults with the legal and medical industry to ensure that proper care at a reasonable cost is provided. Rick Parr, CPO, FAAOP president of National Consulting for Orthotics and Prosthetics states that the cost of care has been outpacing inflation for many years.

“I am afraid that the cost of care will come to a point that the average person will not be able to afford it, even with help from insurance,” states Parr. Every new advancement comes with a higher cost, in some cases four to five times higher.

In one case in which Parr was asked to consult, a $70,000.00 prosthetic limb was prescribed. After evaluating the patient and reviewing the medical records, Parr determined that the patient would be much better served by a prosthesis that cost less than a third of the original price. The benefit was not just the lower cost to the insurance company but in reviewing the records it was noted that the patient enjoyed fishing and the $70,000.00 prosthesis can not be exposed to water. It would not provide the patient with the activity he loved, fishing. This savings could be hundreds of thousands of dollars over a lifetime. This is money that can then be used for the care of others.

National Consulting for Orthotics and Prosthetics was established in 1999 to provide expert knowledge to insurance companies, attorneys and the medical profession.

Rick Parr, CPO, FAAOP has 29 years experience in the fields of Orthotics and Prosthetics. The home office is located in Louisiana and can be contacted at 985-285-8645.
