(PRWEB) June 26, 2005 -- Kids attending diabetes camps this summer will have
fun participating in "Operation When Nature Calls," a scavenger hunt designed by
Susan Haley of Haley Productions. Bayer HealthCare, Diabetes Care Division, a
member of the Bayer Group (NYSE:BAY), located in Tarrytown, New York, is
adapting this program to be used at camps which they sponsor throughout the
United States.
Ms. Haley is a type 1 diabetic herself. “I was diagnosed
at 29 so I guess I’m too old to attend these summer camps but I’m thrilled to
know they exist. This is not an easy disease to live with day in and day out,
especially if you’re a kid. You struggle not only with the disease but with the
fact that you stand out – you’re different from other kids because you have
special needs. At least at these camps you can pal around with other kids just
like you so you don’t feel so alone.”
Other than lots of fun and an
opportunity to make new friends and meet others who face the same challenges,
the camps provide a bit of a break for the family from the daily demands of
diabetes and give the child a chance to learn/improve diabetes self-management
skills in a supervised setting. You can read more here: http://www.diabetes.org/communityprograms-and-localevents/diabetescamps.jsp
