Sample Medications Need Tracking, Saferating Solves the Problem
HIPPA and JCAHO regulations mandate that drug company samples must be tracked in many clinical circumstances. Cumbersome paper tracking can now be replaced immediately and stored securely with the web-based software applications from Saferating, Inc.
Lewiston, ME (PRWEB) January 11, 2005 –- Saferating Inc released a new
web-based application that enables healthcare providers to utilize drug
companies' medication samples and remain in compliance with JCAHO and various
state regulations for just slightly more than $1.00 per day per site
subscription.
According to Robert (Bob) Genest, CEO, the Sample
Medication Management system will simplify the process by taking advantage of
Saferating’s Paperless Form Technology (PFT). Currently in JCAHO accredited
facilities the use of sample medication is allowed but standards require that
sample medication must be “logged or recorded with basic information” such as
name, dose, amount, lot number and expiration date. Furthermore a system must be
in place to insure patient safety in the event of a manufacture recall. Also,
medication samples dispensed to a patient must in most cases be labeled with
information similar to a retail pharmacy prescription label.
Saferating’s Sample Medication Management System enables immediate
compliance by providing a two-step methodology; first, a receiving form online
records medication name, dose, amount received, and staff member documenting the
transaction. Then, data is submitted to the subscriber’s database with report
and query capabilities. Saferating’s automated email function may be utilized to
send notices to prescribers that samples are available. When samples are to be
dispensed, a healthcare provider completes the dispensing form online and data
is stored in a HIPAA compliant database. Regulatory compliance is achieved by a
post submission feature of PFT whereby the output to the screen contains the
information re. patients name, date, drug name and strength, prescribing
directions, lot and expiration number and prescribers name. Two copies are
printed, one as the patient’s labeled directions and the second for the patient
chart.
