Redwood Trails Announces New Fall Races

Following its successful debut last year, organizers of the Bizz Johnson Marathon have announced an expanded format for the 2005 races, scheduled Oct. 8 and 9.

Redwood City, CA (PRWEB) June 2, 2005 -- Following its successful debut last year, organizers of the Bizz Johnson Marathon have announced an expanded format for the 2005 races, scheduled Oct. 8 and 9.

Correspondingly, race director Eric C. Gould has announced a new event, the inaugural Auburn Marathon, scheduled Oct. 1 on Western States Trail surrounding the famous gold-mining city in the Sierra Nevada foothills.

In conjunction with the Bizz Johnson Marathon, which for the second year will progress along the historic and scenic Northern California trail, a new 50-mile race, half-marathon and 10km division have been added Oct. 8. The marathon will be held Oct. 9.

The 50-mile event begins in Susanville at Hobo Camp and progresses toward Mason Station near Westwood before returning to Hobo Camp. Well-stocked aid stations will be available every four miles and all finishers will receive a belt buckle. Entry fee range is $75-$95, with increased fee beginning in August.

The Bizz Johnson Express, a half-marathon and 10km, will feature the finest miles of the Bizz Johnson Trail. Half-marathon runners will descend about 1,000 feet, while 10km runners will run downhill about 500 feet. The Bizz Johnson Express races are point-to-point events. Runners will be bused from the Bizz Johnson Trail Depot in Susanville to the start. Like last year, an out-and-back half-marathon and 10K will also be held on Sunday Oct. 9, the same day as the Bizz Johnson Marathon.

Entry fees for The Bizz Johnson Express races are $50-60, beginning in August. Runners will receive transportation, water bottle, T-shirt, post-race snacks and finisher's medal.

Dean Karnazes, author of the best-selling book, Ultramarathon Man, will be the keynote speaker at the carbo-loading dinner Saturday night Oct. 8.

One week prior to the Bizz Johnson events, the inaugural Auburn Marathon will be held on the famed Western States Trail Oct. 1. Half-marathon, nine-mile and 5km events will be held in conjunction with the new marathon.

The marathon route will take runners through Murderer's Bar, across No-Hand's Bridge and wind through a course around the hamlet of Cool, Calif., and within the Auburn Recreational State Park. Finishers will receive a "bag of gold" and a belt buckle for marathoners. All profits from the Auburn Marathon will be donated to local charities.

Entry fees are $55 (marathon), $35 (half-marathon), $30 (nine-mile) and $25 (5km). All fees will increase by $10 one month prior to the event.
