Santa Cruz, CA (PRWEB) February 25, 2005 -- Performance clothing designer and manufacturer Girls4Sport sponsors four outstanding Florida women – accomplished surfers, kiteboarders and wakeboarders. Each of these inspirational Floridians take their water sport seriously while pursuing careers and living real lives.

“G4S Team Riders are genuine role models. They are more than just pretty faces. These women are accomplished athletes, both professional and amateur. They are smart, confident go-getters,” said Kim Ruby, President of Girls4Sport. “Girls4Sports’ mission is to inspire girls of all ages to confidently lead active lives. Each of our team riders embodies our mission in a very real way every day.”

The Girls4Sport team currently boasts four outstanding women from Florida. They are:

Karen Beber, a 38 year old kiteboarder and mother of three from Key Biscayne
Once a competitive swimmer and water polo player, Karen has discovered the thrill of catching big air on a kiteboard. In addition to being a mom and an amazing kiteboarder, Karen is also a successful entrepreneur. Combining her love of kiteboarding with keen business acumen, Karen owns and operates a sports adventure and travel company.

Marissa Guthrie, a 16 year old surfer and student from Sebastian
A straight-A student, Marissa began surfing just two and a half years ago. Since she bagan competing last year she has found great success placing 6th overall in the Southeast Conference District of the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA).

Marissa is currently ranked 4th in Junior Girls division of Central Florida Eastern Surfing Association. This makes her eligible to compete in the regionals on April 9-11 at St. Augustine. She will be competing against the best girls ages 15 through 19 in the state of Florida.

In addition to surfing, Marissa is a key player on the Sebastian River High School softball team and recently broke the school’s strikeout record by striking out 16 girls in one game.

“Surfing helps me in so many ways,” said Marissa. “One good wave can change my whole day. It’s the best sport and an awesome lifestyle.”

Laura Mitchell, a 30 year old wakeboarder and artist from St. Petersburg
An art student at Eckerd College who works primarily in clay, Laura is preparing for an upcoming show at the St. Petersburg Art Center. Mitchell explains that her show focuses on environmental preservation, “I want to express the importance of our relationship with our oceans… I want my pieces to spark interest and thought into my audience and hope the impact signifies awareness of environmental importance.”

For Mitchell, the water is a part of who she is and wakeboarding is simply an extension of that. “Wakeboarding, for me, is the best of both worlds - sports on water,” said Laura.

Kristina Mekdeci, a 32 year old Surfer and elementary school teacher from Melbourne
Kristina has been surfing for over 19 years. She surfs both long and short boards and continues to push herself by always trying more advanced moves. Kristina broke her ankle during an Eastern Surfing Association competition in the late 1990’s. Since the injury she has focused on healing her ankle by taking a break from competition. She continues surfing for the pure enjoyment of the sport.
