Treat Acne in St. Louis with Laser and/or Photodynamic Therapy
Patients with acne, that tried everything and feel like giving up, need to call St. Louis Skin Solutions. This small and personal office offers a variety of treatments to clear your skin of unwanted acne.
(PRWEB) March 24, 2005 -- The most recent and state of the art technology of
lasers can now help with acne. St. Louis Skin Solutions offers acne patients a
free complexion analysis to analyze the amount of bacteria in the skin. The
patient then receives a microdermabrasion to see if their skin is exfoliating
naturally. If all these tests look good we know that excess oil production is
playing a large part in the formation of the acne, and that treatments to reduce
oil production would yield the best results.
If we know that bacteria is
the primary cause of the acne, then we can focus on eliminating or minimizing
the bacteria. The Aura, a KTP:YAG Laser is the laser we use to oxidize a
by-product of the bacteria, which becomes toxic to the bacteria, then in turn
kills the bacteria. The treatment takes about an hour, and needs to be done in
sessions twice a week for 2-4 weeks. Prior to each acne laser treatment we do a
microderm to insure that the laser can fully penetrate the skin.
If the
acne is caused by a lack of exfoliation then there are a couple of options.
First the patient can use a variety of topical products to help with
exfoliation. These products are sold both over the counter, and by prescription
if a stronger version is needed. The patient can do multiple microderms, and/or
chemical peels, to insure the skin exfoliates naturally. Last but not least
there is a laser peel, which thermally damages up to 6 layers of skin cells to
exfoliate the skin on a deeper level.
Acne that is caused by excess
sebum/oil production can be fixed short term with the laser peel as mentioned
before, which stuns the oil production for about a month. The newest approved
treatment is Photodynamic therapy. Aminolevullanic acid is applied to the skin
after a microderm. This is then left applied to the skin in order to incubate
for a certain amount of time, soaking into the malfunctioning cells that are
producing excess oils. Once this acid is activated by the KTP:YAG Laser the
sebaceous glands are then destroyed, decreasing oil production and improving
acne. This works a lot like accutane without the dangerous side
effects.
