Forget Gucci, Smart Women Want Fraxel for Christmas
Botox is so yesterday. Women today don’t just want more, they want it natural and they want it with as little maintenance as possible. What if women could repair their skin — diminishing wrinkles and skin discoloration caused by the aging process — like they can repair old photographs? In today's computer age, photographs are restored pixel by pixel, smoothing out irregularities and blemishes and restoring color and clarity.
(PRWEB) June 28, 2005 -- These days, the pervasive trend in skincare is
Fraxel laser treatments. With only a handful of physicians in the world with
access to this new, FDA-approved, non-invasive laser treatment, the Fraxel laser
is on every society woman’s holiday wish list. Instead of Gucci handbags or
Prada shoes, everyone from society tai-tais to the busy executive on the go are
requesting for the upkeep of their youthful glow with Fraxel Laser
treatments.
What is Fraxel? A new, innovative and FDA-approved treatment
that systematically improves skin tone, smoothing out fine lines and evening out
skin discoloration, by treating minute sections of the skin. This type of
selective treatment causes collagen to regenerate while not affecting the rest
of the skin's surface. The laser dives deep into the dermis in thousands of
small dots on the face, leaving the surrounding areas unharmed. These unaffected
areas help speed up the healing process while the treated areas promote skin
improvement (rejuvenation).
What does Fraxel improve? “That’s the best
part, almost everything! From the most stubborn pigmentation, to fine lines and
wrinkles, to acne scars, even acne is reduced. And the results are long lasting.
Initial studies show sustained results even a year from treatment.” Says Dr Low
Chai Ling, the first doctor in Singapore to offer Fraxel Laser Treatments for
her faithful clientele.
The results are often compared to the superior
results of ablative laser peels (like CO2 Laser resurfacing) and have been
covered in such publications as the New York Times. So patients get the results
of the laser peels, but without the uncomfortable and long healing process. And
when compared to the milder non-ablative lasers like IPL, Erbium: glass lasers
etc the results are far superior of course.
Why is the Fraxel Treatment
so unique?
If one looks at the newsprint in a newspaper, each picture
consists of a number of tiny dots that, when viewed from a reasonable distance,
are not discernable. The same goes for the Fraxel Laser Treatment where there
are literally millions of very small laser treatment zones distributed across
the face. What’s unique is that each tiny treatment spot cannot be viewed with
the unaided eye. The Fraxel Laser is a digital approach to touching up the
imperfections of the skin pixel by pixel.
Why is the Fraxel Laser
Treatment Safer for Chest, Hands & Neck?
As opposed to other ablative
lasers, the Fraxel laser does not destroy all the treated skin. Therefore, the
healing of potentially frail, thin-skinned areas such as the chest, hands and
neck is much easier. With each of the subsequent 3-5 treatments, fractional
pixel-like areas are treated, leaving normal skin in between the treated areas.
Thus there is no obvious wound and healing is much safer.
How Does the
Fraxel Laser Treatment Work?
The treatment starts with a mild scrubbing with
a facial cleanser. Next, a blue tint is applied to the skin to aid in tracking
of the laser beam, followed by application of an anesthetic ointment. It takes
about 45 minutes for the anesthetic to reach full effect. Then the physician
guides the Fraxel hand piece over the skin. Treatments average about 30 minutes.
Side effects are generally mild and tend to consist of mild swelling and
redness. The swelling usually subsides after a day while redness fades over
several days. Patients can usually apply make-up and return to normal activities
right after the procedure. There is limited, if any, risk of infection or
scarring. The Fraxel Laser treatment is especially beneficial for areas that
can’t be treated with traditional laser peels, like the neck, chest and tops of
the hands.
Safety, Pain and Downtime:
The Fraxel laser was recently
cleared by the FDA and offers the benefits of speedy healing and no downtime.
Side effects are minimal and involves mild swelling or redness much like sunburn
which subsides within a day or so. Patients can apply make-up immediately after
the treatment and return to normal activities. Treatment is typically
well-tolerated and feels like a slight pin-prick sensation. A topical anesthetic
cream is applied prior the treatment to allay any initial
discomfort.
Price and Number of Treatments needed:
Clinical studies
indicate that 4-6 treatments spaced 1-2 weeks apart produce the most optimal
remodeling of the dermal matrix, until complete healing occurs and “good”
material that contains collagen and elastin replaces old epidermal and dermal
tissue. Patients however begin to see noticeable improvements even after the
first treatment, and ultimately the number of treatments may depend on their
quest for perfection.
