The Law Firm of Baron & Budd, P.C. Announces Multimillion Dollar Pledge to the International Pleural Mesothelioma Program at Brigham and Women's Hospital
Grant made in honor of victims of asbestos exposure.
Dallas, TX (PRWEB via PR Web Direct)
April 1, 2005 -- In honor of National Asbestos Awareness Day on April 1, 2005,
the law firm of Baron & Budd, P.C. has pledged up to $3 million to the
International Pleural Mesothelioma Program at Brigham & Women's Hospital.
The International Pleural Mesothelioma Program was founded by David J.
Sugarbaker, MD, as a response to the growing incidence of mesothelioma, a
disease caused by exposure to asbestos.
"We could not think of a better
way to honor victims of asbestos exposure than to help fund one of the most
highly-respected mesothelioma research and treatment programs in the country,"
said Russell Budd, managing shareholder of Baron & Budd. "We hope the good
work of the International Pleural Mesothelioma Program will provide new hope for
patients of this disease, which currently has no cure."
Realizing that a
cure for this devastating disease can only come from a collaborative effort of
dedicated professionals, the International Pleural Mesothelioma Program is
comprised of some of the finest researchers, surgeons, oncologists,
pulmonologists, radiologists, pathologists, and medical and social science
professionals from Brigham & Women's Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute,
and Harvard Medical School. The objective of the program is to offer potentially
curative therapy to patients with malignant pleural
mesothelioma.
Contrary to popular belief, the U.S. has not banned
asbestos. It has been estimated that there will be 2,200 to 3,000 malignant
pleural mesothelioma cases diagnosed in the United States this year.
